The Beginning

September 1990 marked the beginning of a new venture.

After having a career in Photography since 1979,

I decided to go back to college to get a degree in

 Early Childhood Education .

Meanwhile, I realized I enjoyed teaching children what

I had experienced.  I have a way with children. I understand them

and they understand me. Deciding to have the classes on

Saturday in the afternoon, reminded me of going to the movies

in the old days to the “Matinee”. So, that’s how the name came about.

The classes started in my home/work space/office/gallery.

Twice I thought maybe the classes should be in a building.

Twice I changed my mind. My space is where I feel most comfortable

and so do the children. They have always had the run of the space.

Children everywhere. They don’t want to leave and it’s really okay.

So I will always have the Saturday Matinee, at home.

In the past we have taught children from the ages of 3 – 12 years old.

You would be amazed at the masterpieces the 3 yr olds created.

We have taught Photography, Drums, Cooking, Horticulture,

Decoupage’ Mask Making, Mural Art, Experimental Art,

Music Theory for Violins, Improvisational Dance and more I’m sure.

I remember when we had a Benefit Concert with the  Legendary  Bag Pipist,

Rufus Harley & his son. There were wall to wall Parents, families  and friends.

Rufus even taught a class before the show.

The event was catered by, World Renown, Caterer

 & Floral Designer,  Hetti’ Victory.

It was a Memorable Day …

Upon remarrying in 1991, I found my husband,

Gerald (an International Percussionist) also

shared my vision and so we became a team in dedicating

our lives to teaching children. Together, we have made

The  Saturday  Matinee a Model Program of Excellence and Love.

Under the Parent Company, Yesterday Today & Tomorrow,

we have placed our program into organization’s programs,

and have had their children bused to our site and

even though I  continue to Design Programs like ours for others,

I will never forget how it all came about and all the children who have

filled our hearts and our home with Joy
